Title: Candy Cane Cookies #2 Categories: Cookie Yield: 36 Servings 1 c Shortening (or margarine) 1 c Sifted confectioners sugar 1 Egg 1 1/2 ts Almond extract 1 ts Vanilla 2 1/2 c Gold medal wondra flour -(cake flour) 1 ts Salt 1/2 ts Red food coloring Granulated sugar From: "Mary f (Pud)" Date: 19 Dec 1995 18:22:13 -0700 My Aunt made these and they are one of my favorite Christmas cookies. They are delicate in flavor and usually a real winner. Preheat oven to 375F. Mix first 5 ingredients together. Sift flour and salt together. Stir 1/2 of flour mixture into shortening mixture. Work remaining flour into mixture with hands until the dough holds together. Divide dough in half. Mix 1/2 of dough with red food coloring. Pinch off a bit of white dough and roll into a long cigarette, pinch off a bit of red dough and roll into a long cigarette. Twist white and red dough together, place on cookie sheet and bend into a candy cane shape. Bake 9 minutes. Remove from oven and dust with granulated sugar.
