Frosted Applesauce Cake
Title: Frosted Applesauce Cake Categories: None Yield: 1 Servings 1 1/2 c Thick unsweetened applesauce 1/2 Butter or other shortening 1 c Brown sugar 1 c Raisins 1 Teas ground cloves 1 Teas ground cinnamon 1 Teas ground nutmeg 1/2 Teas salt 2 c Flour 2 Teas soda 1/2 c Nuts, chopped ----------------------------------FROSTING---------------------------------- 2 c Confectioners sugar 4 tb Hot milk 3 tb Medlted butter 1/2 Teas vanilla (From Marion Brown's _Southern Cook Book_, recipe by Mrs. R. W. Bost from Chapel Hill, NC) (This tastes just like the Spanish Bar Cake that A&P sold years and years ago!!) (It also makes a wonderful gift during the holidays) Put butter, sugars and raisins into hot applesauce. When cool, add spices, salt, flour, and soda. Mix; then add chopped nuts. Turn into greased loaf pan or 9" X 9" cake pan and bake one hour at 350 degrees. Cover with frosting. Frosting: Mix together and spread on while cake is warm.
