5 Cloves garlic (up to 6)
Cayenne pepper
Whole cumin
Salt
1 pn Asafoetida
A little tamarind
Oil

grind on a stone (or mortar and pestle or whatever) 5 or 6 cloves garlic,
cayenne pepper, whole cumin, salt, a pinch of asafoetida, and a little
tamarind, to make a paste. Add a little oil and fry the paste lightly,
stirring, in a dry pan till smell rises just enough to cut the raw edge.
color should be dark red.
