Title: Good Molasses Cookies Categories: None Yield: 1 Servings 3/4 c Melted shortening 1/4 c Molasses 1 c Sugar 1 lg Egg 2 ts Baking soda 2 c Flour (Not self rising) 1/2 ts Cloves 1 ts Cinnamon 1 ts Ginger (you can use less but -we like the ginger taste) 1/2 ts Salt Mix sugar and molasses into melted shortening. Add beaten egg. Sift dry ingredients and mix in. Chill dough about 1 hour. Form into balls about the size of a large walnut, roll in sugar. Place balls on ungreased baking sheet and bake at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 8-10 minutes. (Until set but not hard) Balls will be puffy when you remove from oven. Drop cookie sheet on surface so cookies fall. The cookies will crinkle and have a beautiful appearance. Remove from sheet to cooling rack. Store in airtight container. These use to disappear before they were cool when my kids were still at home--so I usually doubled the batch and hoped there would be some left for the freezer.
