Categories: Chinese, Family, Sauces
Yield: 1 Servings

1/2 c Sugar
1/2 c Vinegar
1/2 c Catsup
1/2 c Pineapple juice; * see
-recipe
1 tb Fresh ginger root; grated
2 tb Plum sauce; optional (up to
-3)
2 tb Soy sauce; (up to 3)

~----------------------------OPTIONAL
THICKENER----------------------------- 2 tb cornstarch; (up to 3)
: pineapple juice; from above

~---------------------------------GARNISH----------------------------------
1 green onions; finely chopped
: -(up to 2)

An easy sweet and sour dipping sauce can be made with about 1/2 cup each of
sugar, vinegar, pineapple juice and catsup. Put it in a sauce pan and add
2-3 tablespoons of soy sauce. Bring to a boil and it's ready to serve. If
you prefer a thicker sauce, mix a couple of tablespoons of cornstarch with
some of the pineapple juice and add to the boiling mixture. Stir until
thick and remove from the heat. Some people like to add grated fresh ginger
and/or finely chopped fresh green onions to this sauce. Others add some
plum sauce. You'll need to play with it until you get the taste your family
likes. I usually add the fresh ginger, often leave out the soy sauce and
rarely add the chopped onions, except for company. LOL The onions are more
decorative than anything else.

I love this with spring roll.

Me ke aloha, Mary
